It seems to me as though each year around springtime, the year’s top emerging trends really tend to become apparent. If you think about it, most people really were disappointed when Emerald Green was unveiled by Pantone as 2013’s Color of the Year, as was Radiant Orchid in 2014, yet it’s funny to me how things come full circle and people being to latch on and learn to love what’s new and becoming in style.
One major trend that I’ve noticed that has been popping up everywhere, especially this spring, is watercolor-inspired home décor. This cool color technique has manifested itself everywhere it seems, whether it’s through watercolor inspired fabrics and wallpapers or household essentials like dishes and bedding, watercolors seem to be shaping up as a hot trend in 2014.
There’s truly nothing more stunning or on trend to me right now than a large watercolor painting that captures the attention, and designing the room in colors that complement it’s palette. Especially in the interior design world, things always look best with a focal feature in mind and watercolor paintings provide a calmingly captivating solution to decorating with ease.
If I can recall correctly, I first took notice of this watercolor trend last October when Black Crow Studios showcased their stunning watercolor-inspired wallpapers in the CR Laine showroom at High Point Market. I’d never seen anything as unique looking that was created for walls, making an entire room feel like a color coordinated and carefully curated piece of art.
Fast-forwarding to today, online retailers like DENY Designs and Bluebellgray are capitalizing on the watercolor trend by offering gorgeous décor products and textiles that are sure to infuse soft color into your home interior. It’ll be interesting to see if this wonderful watercolor moment we’re having will last to next year or if we’ll see it fade after the warm spring and summer weather. Either way, I’m all about jumping onto this colorful bandwagon!
