Okay so I may have watched a few too many episodes of Mad Men, I admit, but I am a huge fan of mid-century modern furniture. While I love the retro-inspired look, even for me, a whole room full of it is a little too masculine and stark. Fortunately, mid-century furniture seems to mix seamlessly with all kinds of décor and never seems to go out of style.
Whether you have traditional, rustic or ultra modern furniture a mid century piece that you love can work. The clean lines and thoughtful design that make mid-century design blend well in almost any environment are also what make it so timeless. You can find these original pieces at flea markets and antiques stores or go for reproduction versions available at many retailers.
Don’t be afraid to update mid-century pieces to suit your style by upholstering it in something a little more modern or even adding a little color. If you’re not ready for large furniture pieces try ’60s inspired accessories or light fixtures. Let me warn you though once you get hooked there is no turning back.
