Often referred to as eggplant, aubergine is appearing more often in design magazines, as well as sites like Houzz and Pinterest, and I couldn’t be more in love with the color right now. I think people are typically afraid or resistant to go purple in the beginning, because they think it’s either too bold or too dark, but I’m here to tell you that it is the perfect color to accessorize with and when you want to make a statement. Take a look at some of my favorite rooms infused with this beautiful hue!
I think a major way to incorporate this deep color is to pick a base wall color, then accentuate it by going with a lighter geometric wallcovering or window treatment so that the look can appear lighter and more happy. If you love a more traditional look that’s more established and not as cheery, go for a subtle shade of aubergine as your base and do solid upholstered pieces or window treatments in a dark shade of eggplant. Tufted ottomans and couches with defined silhouettes and velvet upholsteries look great, as so window draperies and area rugs.
An ultramodern way to utilize this hue in the home would be to add it to the kitchen. More and more people are starting to move entertaining from the living room to an open plan kitchen, so why not infuse a little color into your kitchen? Purple Ceasarstone and other brands of countertops look great paired with a white or other light colored cabinetry (and vice versa). I’m loving these streamlined and modern minimal kitchen designs.
Lastly, if you’re worried about putting purple in the main areas of your home, why not make your bedroom your private purple place of solitude? You have a range of options in the bedroom, from bedding to flowers and accessories, to window treatments and headboard designs. Your bedroom should make you happy, in my opinion, because it’s the first place you see when you wake up and the last place you see before you fall asleep, so I say be brave and go bold!
Could you see yourself utilizing aubergine in your home design? Which room would you be willing to try out this color in?
