Every designer knows that High Point Market is a great place to get inspiration for new interior design trends. Almost every showroom is perfectly finished with thoughtfully staged vignettes everywhere you look, and in most cases, you’ll see designers taking photos of these to refer to later. There are tons of different ways to style and stage a vignette in your own home using pieces you might already have!
Here are a few techniques for creating your own vignette just like the pro’s at High Point Market do. You’ll notice that each vignette uses a combination of these rules to create a well-balanced and interesting room.
Place Items in Groups of three
Usually, items look best when placed in odd numbered groups. Three pieces seems to be the magic number, as you can see below.
Try Symmetry in your Vignette
Depending on what pieces you have, sometimes it’s fun to play with symmetry and create a mirrored vignette. This means, you have two of the same piece and place on each side of the table/tray/shelf/couch/wall. It doesn’t always work, but when it does, IT DOES.
Play with heights
When grouping items, use different heights to create depth and interest. Whether you use two of the same candles and just stack a few books under one of them to make it taller, or use three vases of different heights – just try to vary the heights of your objects.
Use a tray to keep your vignette anchored
You’ll notice that almost every vignette here uses a try to keep items collected, neat and orderly. This acts as an anchor for each piece and really brings it all together.
