It’s been said that what’s old always becomes new again, the latest example being antique mirrored glass. Fortunately for those who aren’t a fan of actual antique mirrors, there have been a ton of manufacturers that have introduced new furniture pieces with faux antique mirrored finishes for an authentic look but in a more modern design.
One noteworthy brand I noticed that nailed this trend at High Point Market last month was Four Hands with their “Great Gatsby” themed collection. They introduced a really amazing low profile; completely mirrored coffee table and coordinating mirrored vanity, both in a silvery antique finish. These would be great if you’re currently in love with this trend, but don’t think you can commit to something more permanent like a mirrored wall or tile backsplash.
Surprisingly, I find that the antiqued mirror look goes well with modern and transitional interiors by adding a slight juxtaposition in design. I’ve found that a yin and yang of new and old always seems to capture my attention when it comes to beautifully designed rooms. Furthermore, going glam seems to be relatively easy with this trend if you’re aiming to achieve a more flashy, feminine style at home.
What I love about this trend, as well as the mercury glass décor trend that we’ve been seeing for awhile now, it that it adds a certain patina that makes the look much more interesting than just regular old mirrored glass. Just thinking about how many tacky mirrored glass walls that I’ve seen in homes from the 90’s makes me never want to look at a mirrored wall again, but somehow I’d be down for this antiqued style.
Whether you’re on board with the trend or not, there’s no denying that this finish is undoubtedly having a moment in design in everything from home décor and building materials such as backsplash tiles, to statement-making furniture pieces like coffee tables and vanities. I, for one, am definitely down for this antique mirrored moment!
